Zachary Weiss is an Immigration Attorney at Maria Jones Law Firm. A recent graduate of the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University, Zach moved to the Phoenix area in 2017 to attend law school and be closer to family.

Though originally from St. Louis, Missouri himself, Zach’s family has lived in the Southwest since before it became part of the United States, and remain deeply attached to the area. Frequent trips to Arizona and New Mexico were integral parts of his formative years. Zach has always felt connected to his roots, and it was the experience of seeing how immigration impacted his own family as well as those of his closest friends that made him decide to pursue a career in immigration law.

Zach was able to develop his passion for immigration law while he attended Boston University, where he graduated summa cum laude with a major in Philosophy and a minor in Spanish Literature. During that time, he ran his fraternity’s middle-school tutoring program in the Chelsea, Massachusetts, a city with a large immigrant population, and was fortunate enough to study abroad in Madrid while working at a refugee center run by the Spanish government. There, he helped individuals fleeing violence from all over the world gain access to essential services that they would need to pursue a new life in Spain, teaching them Spanish and helping them navigate a difficult and often confusing bureaucracy.

This experience impressed upon Zach the importance of making sure that everyone who moves to a new country has the opportunity to make it their home. By witnessing the difficulties many of his friends were experiencing with their own families’ status in the United States, he decided to pursue a career in immigration law.

Once in law school, Zach interned at immigration non-profits, participated in the ASU Immigration Clinic, and took classes to expand his knowledge of immigration law. Zach is committed to help those seeking a pathway to a better life here in the United States, and is excited to have the opportunity to do so at Maria Jones Law Firm.

Zach is fluent in English and Spanish, and is able to read Portuguese. His hobbies include cooking, reading, watching the (baseball) Cardinals and Blues, and slam poetry.
